Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know what size grill I need?

Two things drive the decision: how many people you cook for, and how much space your island allows.

  • 30" — fits about 4 burgers across, good for 4–6 people
  • 36"–40" — handles a family or small gathering, with room for indirect cooking zones
  • 42"+ — for serious entertaining, multiple proteins at once, or rotisserie work

Measure your cutout opening before you shop — every grill lists the exact dimensions it needs.

Should I get a natural gas or propane built-in grill?

Natural gas if your home has a gas line you can run to the kitchen — it's cheaper long-term and you never refill a tank. Propane if you don't have a gas line or want the kitchen to be relocatable. Most grills are sold as one or the other, so pick before you order. Conversion kits exist but aren't available for every model.

Can I use my existing cabinet, or do I need a new island?

It depends on the cabinet. Two things have to be true to drop a built-in grill into an existing island:

  • The cutout has to match the grill's exact dimensions (typically within ⅛").
  • The surrounding material must be non-combustible — stone, tile, stucco, concrete, or stainless. Wood, composite, and most pre-fab kit cabinets don't qualify without an insulated jacket.

If your island is stone, tile, or masonry and the cutout fits, you're good. If it's wood or a pre-fab kit, you'll likely need a new cabinet or a zero-clearance liner to install safely. Bring us your island specs (or photos) and we'll tell you straight.

Do you install built-in grills?

Yes. We install across the Ottawa/Gatineau area. Built-in grills require a proper gas hookup and a non-combustible cutout, so we don't recommend DIY unless you have that experience.
